2. Data we process and lawful bases

• Strictly necessary technical logs & consent storage (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR): IP address, browser headers, and a local storage key (railfield_cookie_consent_v1) to maintain site security and remember your cookie decision.
• Contact enquiries — service response (Article 6(1)(b) & (f) UK GDPR): When you submit our contact form, we process your name, email address, optional telephone number, and message solely to answer your query. Retained for up to 12 months after resolution.
• Optional editorial updates (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR — separate consent): Only if you explicitly tick the optional marketing checkbox on our contact form, we store your email address to send occasional editorial briefings. Retained until you withdraw consent or unsubscribe (processed within 30 days).
• Analytics & advertising measurement (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR): Google Consent Mode v2 defaults to denied for all analytics and advertising storage. Measurement tags only fire if you click “Accept All” in our consent banner.

3. Interactive self-check tool

The three-question readiness scorecard on our main article runs entirely in your browser via client-side JavaScript. Your selected radio answers are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

4. Outbound affiliate links to edX

When you click an outbound link via /go/ to visit edX (edx.org), your browser is redirected with referral attribution parameters. Once you land on edX, their own privacy policy and cookie controls govern any data you provide during registration or course enrolment.

5. Your UK data-protection rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to request access to, rectification of, or erasure of your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time.
